Welcome to the Bay Center Association website. We'll
use this site to get the word out on our organization and create a stronger sense of community among our members. Our community
already has good neighbors, and already has a strong sense of community.
The Bay Center Association
will work with our neighbors, leveraging the existing sense of shared community in helping to keep Bay Center a place where
our neighbors love to live. We'll also include pictures of our work, activities and our members.
Our Mission
The Bay Center Association has a history dating back to the late 1800's when the community of Bay Center was established.
Through the decades of change, the community of Bay Center has retained the flavor of it's origins. Balancing old with new,
Bay Center continues to be a unique community. The Bay Center Association partners wtih people in the community to keep Bay
Center -- well ---- Bay Center!
-- shout out of thanks to JessicaLorton for her work in producing the new dvd, Bay Center in Photographic Beauty, for our Holiday fundraiser.
dvds will sell for $10.00 each, and will make special holiday gifts for family and friends. Get yours soon!
-- shout out of thanks to Michael
O'Meagher for his diligent work in obtaining emergency radio equipment for Bay Center, now installed and ready for
use in Bay Center Volunteer Fire Department. His enthusiasm for the project and his support for the four (soon to be
five) licensed amateur ham radio operators is a great value to Bay Center community. They will be able to interface with Pacific
County Emergency Management, assisting in communication during future weather storms or other emergencies.
Is there
someone you think deserves Kudo shout out of appreciation? Let us know and we'll add it here.
-- County Park - Bush Pioneer Park is closed for Autumn/Winter seasons. Scheduled to reopen in mid-May, open
through September. The community gives a shout out of thanks to Herb Frank for his admirable dedication in maintaing
Bush Pioneer Park.
The new
restroom facilities are operational, however, with fewer stalls than the previous facilities, although there continue to be
shower facilities. During the peak season of park use, June, July and August, there is need for additional restroom
facilities. Herb rented porta-potties for 2009 season; the additional expenses were not picked up by the county or community.
There is opportunity for community to help with creative ways to deal with the need and expense.
This has generated
some discussion for BCA of the need for additional facilities (ie, rented porta-potties) when there is to be a large number
of people attending an event at Bush Pioneer Park. Would the rental cost for additional facilities be required of the
Sponsor of the event?
-- Pacific Transit System has made a change in their route in Bay Center and no longer comes up beyond the Dock of the Bay Restaraunt. Community
expresses concerns at this change in routing and wishes Pacific Transit System to restore it's full route in Bay Center.
The Chinook Tribal Center with it's operating Food Bank is now newly located on a segment of the former bus route.
Discussions are underway in trying to have Pacific County Transit
resume it's entire route in Bay Center, and have advised that we will need to establish a bus shelter at designated bus stop.
Discussions suggest sheltered stop could be located at Bay Center Country Grocery Store or Bay Center Methodist Church.
Join us at Bay Center Association monthly meetings to share in this
ongoing discussion. If you cannot attend the monthly meetings, you can contact Lietta Ruger (875-6380) to share your
thoughts.
Pacific Transit
System contact phone number; 875-9418.
Update;
Per Pacific County Transit- willing to have the bus route extend from Dock of the Bay Restaraunt onto the island if there
is individual need. Call Pacific County Transit to advise your need of extended bus route and stops.
Update;
Per Pacific County Transit, installation of a shelterd bus stop would not be cost efficient; at cost of $3,000.00 to install
and low demand useage, it is highly unlikely a sheltered bus stop will be installed along Bay Center route.
Bay Center Amateur Radio Station - Michael O'Meagher – N7BBQ
Taileen is proud to report that Bay Center now has the emergency radio system
installed in Bay Center Volunteer Fire Department and it is ready to go. Which means we are all the better prepared
for the upcoming wind, rain and storm season with working emergency amateur radio system and trained amateur radio operators
to work it.
Should any of our Bay Center operators not be available, the system is operable
by others in Pacific County who have taken the training and are familiar with the radio system. The technology
permits primitive emails to go in and out of the county. Remembering the storm of December 2007, when Pacific County
was cut off from communication going in or out of the county, this is a most welcome addition to Bay Center community.
Congratulations to Pacific County Emergency Management for their work in making
this happen. Especially a hat tip and shout out of thanks to Michael O'Meagher for his continued enthusiasm,
hours and drive to make this happen for us all in Bay Center!
And additional shout outs of thanks to the licensed volunteer amateur radio
operators in Bay Center; Taileen Wilson, KF7CWO; Diane O’Meagher – KF7AIW;; Berno Hartman - KF7APO, Ed Watness - KF7AQM.
The Bay Center based Tsunami Warning Signal system, is part
of the larger Pacific County system. There are three operating indicators that determine if all systems are working.
1) Flashing light 2) Sound emits Westminster Chimes and 3) Voice Announcement. The Tsunami Warning Signal
system is tested once a month on first Monday of the month. To learn more see Pacific County Emergency Management.
