Tsunami Warning System

Testing, Testing, Testing; May 2009   The Bay Center based Tsunami Warning Signal system, part of the larger Pacific County system and you may have seen the light flashing or heard the Westminister Chimes sounding today (May 4, 2009).  You probably didn't hear the voice warning message.   We are advised that Pacific County Emergency Management is aware of why the voice warning message did not sound and are fixing the problem.

May 9, 16, and 23 2009  -- Introductory Amateur Radio Class in Naselle

Bay Center Amateur Radio Station - Michael O'Meagher – N7BBQ

With support from the PCEMA (  Pacific County Emergency Management) and the PCARC ( Pacific County Amateur Radio Club), the Homeland Security Grant for an Amateur Radio Station here in Bay Center was successful.  Most of the radio equipment has been purchased and is being processed for distribution. The Amateur Station will be installed at the Bay Center Volunteer Fire Department.

Three people from the Bay Center area have recently passed the FCC Element 2 Exam and now have their Technician’s Licenses:

       Diane O’Meagher – KF7AIW

       Berno Hartman – KF7APO

       Ed Watness – KF7AQM.

Once the Bay Center station is up and running then a training program will be started to teach the new operators the fundamentals of radio operations and emergency communications.  The Bay Center Amateur Radio Station will play a key role in keeping communications flowing during times of utility outages, natural disasters, and other major events. (Remember the December 2007 Storm, January 2008 Storm)

If you are interested in learning more about Amateur Radio or Emergency Communications contact Michael – N7BBQ at: N7BBQ@yahoo.com
